David has worked in a variety of environments, often in leadership roles and always learning from every situation. Here are his words concerning his development history… Before Windows was prevalent, I built a DOS-based educational management system in Borland Pascal that loaded software from other vendors, ran lessons for students, then collected the scores for teachers to assess. Rules were implemented for automatically reviewing tough areas or advancing through easy material. Plowing through a variety of programming languages, such as C, BASIC, FORTRAN, and working with other developers on the team taught incredible lessons in multitasking, quick learning, and flexibility. Plus, wading through the plethora of Novell NetWare manuals taught me more than I wanted to know about networking.

How long have you been in business?

Cornelius Concepts was officially established in Washington state in 1990 after working with a few clients during college. David Cornelius moved the business to Oregon in 1993 where it has remained ever since.

Why was Cornelius Concepts founded?

Cornelius Concepts was founded to make life easier for business people trying to run their business. In the early days, we saw people go to seminars or hear on the news that computers will help their business so they would buy a computer but then not know what to do with it. We would listen to information problems they wanted help with and would setup a database or steer them to software to help them manage that information. Today, computers are everywhere and people are much more technically savvy. Accordingly, the bulk of our time is now spent crafting software solutions from requests. We still help people understand the capabilities and limitations of their technology, but also open their eyes to possibilities they may not have considered.

I have known David Cornelius for so long that I had to look back at some of the projects he worked on for me just to refresh my memory. I believe the first project was in 1997 or 1998. We met through the Oregon Delphi Users Group (ODUG). I was in the early stages of developing a truly king size software product that ultimately grew to over 3 million lines of code. Being a programmer myself, I was picky about who I would trust with my projects. After all, the success or failure of his work would directly affect the success or failure of my business. David proved to be not only an exemplary programmer, but a fine and insightful analyst. I soon came to trust him as a collaborator on many phases of my work.
