Enable Network Level Authentication

If you're trying to access a Windows 2008 Server via Remote Desktop from Windows XP, you'll need to enable the enhanced security in the client in order to connect. It took me a while to find this, but this Microsoft Knoweldgebase article that describes it pretty well. You have to install Service Pack 3, then make a couple of registry hacks, but it's all described here.
