Firebird is an open source database, forked from InterBase 6.0, which has been taken back into proprietary mode by Borland Software Corporation. Firebird is a serious client-server database engine with a small footprint and nearly zero-administration requirements. It is in active development and used by many organizations, large and small, around the world.
